Access Excellence (Archival Site)
Launched in 1993, AE was a national educational program that provided health, biology and life science teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new scientific information. The program was originally developed and launched by Genentech Inc., and in 1999 joined the National Health Museum. 

Action Bioscience
The web site provides peer-reviewed articles by scientists, science educators and students on issues related to seven bioscience challenges: environment, biodiversity, genomics, biotechnology, evolution, new frontiers, and biology education. Articles are accompanied by lessons, written by educators, for high school and undergraduate levels, correlated to national standards (NSES).

If you have a question on biology you can type your question in the box provided at the Web site and receive an answer within two weeks, from a scientist at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Or, you can browse the archives to find if your question has already been asked and answered. The categories are general biology, developmental biology, immunology and infectious diseases, genetics, neuroscience, and biological structure.

This site provides access to more than 4,000 reviewed resources covering 76 biological topics.

BioEdOnline for Teachers
News and resources to supplement teaching of biology in high school prepared by the Baylor School of Medicine in Texas. Improvement in use of a microscope, lab techniques, and biology content in specific areas are some of the topics. Hot topics in biology, such as the mad cow disease or the Asian bird flu are featured. Slidesets can be downloaded. RealOne Player is needed but available free.

Biological Exceptions: As Many Exceptions As Rules
This blog uses examples of how organisms increase their survival chances by breaking commonly held "biological rules" to reinforce basic biology concepts. Each post includes well-defined vocabulary, topics to introduce discussions, and links to websites for additional information, classroom activities and laboratories. Comments are encouraged so teachers can contribute additional ideas for lessons or units in the topic areas, or how these topics might relate to upcoming units.

Entomology Digital Library
This is a collaborative effort by North Carolina State University, the Entomological Foundation, Iowa State University, and Clemson University. The site provides teachers and learners with access to high-quality, expert-reviewed entomology teaching materials for elementary school through college. The program is a part of the BEN Collaborative, which is spearheaded by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and composed of professional societies and coalitions for biology education. BEN is a grant project sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
