NABT Biology Education Research Symposium

We welcome all life sciences education researchers from elementary to graduate levels, in formal and informal settings.

Call for Proposals: 16th Annual Biology Education Research Symposium 

2024 NABT Professional Development Conference 
When: Friday, November 15, 2024        
Where: Anaheim Marriott, Anaheim, California

The proposal submission deadline is 11:59pm PST on Friday, July 19, 2024.

We invite you to submit a proposal to present your research in biology education at the 16^th Annual Biology Education Research Symposium. Previous presentations have included case study research on teaching evolution, action research in a high school setting, and modeling in elementary students.

This is a refereed session to be presented at the 2024 NABT Professional Development Conference on November 15, 2024, in Anaheim. All papers will go through double-blind review using the Reviewer Rubric. The format of the symposium will be a traditional presentation of papers by individuals or co-authors lasting 15 minutes each (with five minutes for Q&A). Reviewed proposals will be published as proceedings on the NABT website.

Proposal Guidelines

• Please only submit research that is not yet published.
• Proposals should be a maximum of five pages including references.
• Use 12-point Times New Roman font, 1” margins, single spacing, and APA formatting.  Please include the title at the top of each page, printed in capital letters. 
• Please DO NOT include author identifiers in this document. 

Reviews will be guided by the following criteria:

• Subject/Problem: Is there a clear focus, rationale, model, theory, or philosophy upon which the proposal is based?
• Design or Procedure: Are the methodology, procedure, design, and organization appropriate?
• Analyses and Findings: Do the syntheses of ideas or data analyses and findings appear to be appropriate and complete? Do the conclusions drawn follow from the data?
• Contribution: Do the conclusions contribute valuable insights into the teaching/learning of biology?
• General Interest: Does the presentation promise to be of general interest to NABT members?

The proposal submission deadline is 11:59 PST on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Blind submission review will take place in July and early August, with final selection made by late August 2024. All presenters are required to register for the NABT Conference, and accommodations will be made to allow for the early discounted registration rate. Minor corrections to submissions can be made after acceptance. Proceedings from past years are below
