Position Description
Messina College at Boston College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of the Practice of Biology with expertise in any area of ecology from micro- to macroscopic. For candidates with considerable teaching experience, a higher rank may be considered. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a three-year renewable contract, to begin in the summer session - June 30, 2025. The teaching load is 5 courses per year. This position also involves college service and advising students at Messina College.
About Messina College
Messina College is a new two-year residential college division of Boston College that offers an associate’s degree program for first-generation and low-income students. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or begin their professional careers upon graduation. Messina College students live and study on the Brookline Campus of Boston College and have full access to BC’s facilities and programs.

Minimum Requirements
Our priority is to hire an outstanding educator, qualified to teach General Biology and Ecology & Sustainability of Our Living Planet, including hands-on oversight of the course’s laboratories, and additional teaching assignments as needed within the natural sciences. We seek candidates with genuine interest and expertise in working with first-generation college students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds. Requirements include a Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline, or a related field (e.g., ecology, biology) and several years of college teaching experience, ideally with first-generation students. Post-doctoral research is desired.

The Department of Biology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 3-year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor instructional position that will begin August 10, 2025. This full-time teaching faculty appointment carries a service component commensurate with rank, and comes with the possibility of ongoing renewals and a framework for promotion.
We seek an individual with expertise in and enthusiasm for teaching introductory biology. The successful applicant will have the expertise to teach in both semesters of the introductory biology series (molecules, cells and development in the fall and organisms, ecology and evolution in the spring) in collaboration with existing teaching faculty. The successful applicant should also possess an interest in collaborating on the laboratory component of the introductory biology course. Additional teaching expectations may include non-majors courses in the applicant’s area of expertise that contribute to the general education requirements, known as the College (COLL) Curriculum and pedagogy and best practices for learning assistants/peer mentors. There is no expectation of research scholarship associated with this position. However, the successful applicant is expected to remain current in biology education (pedagogy), keep curricula current with the latest discoveries in biology, and actively participate in revising and improving the introductory biology curriculum. Support for these activities may be accessed from various sources including the Arts & Sciences Teaching Faculty Grants Fund. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor. Primary responsibilities include innovative teaching in courses spanning the biochemistry curriculum, including our capstone biochemistry laboratory course. We seek candidates who will develop engaging, evidence-based teaching programs that support the success of all students, and who will excel in cooperative teaching of large-enrollment undergraduate courses. Applicants must have completed a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a related field; have experience and expertise in experimental biochemistry and molecular biology research; have demonstrated excellence in teaching lecture or laboratory courses; and have an interest in advancing educational innovation. This position is a full-time, benefits eligible, 9-month, fixed-term faculty position with an initial appointment of four years.
