We welcome all life sciences education researchers from elementary to graduate levels, in formal and informal settings.
We invite you to submit a proposal to the 12th annual Biology Education Research Symposium sponsored by the NABT Four Year University/College Section’s Biology Education Research Committee. Previous presentations have included case study research on teaching evolution, action research in a high school setting, and modeling in elementary students. This is a refereed session to be presented at the NABT2020 Online Professional Development Conference on November 6, 2020. All papers will go through double-blind review using an approved rubric. The format of the symposium will be a traditional presentation of papers by individuals or co-authors lasting 15 minutes each. Reviewed proposals will be published as Proceedings after the conference on the NABT website, and five to seven papers are accepted each year.
The body of the proposal should clearly address the following criteria; we recommend using the underlined portions as section headings:
Subject/Problem: Is there a clear focus, rationale, model, theory, or philosophy guiding the proposal?
Design or Procedure: Are the methodology, procedure, design, and organization appropriate?
Analyses and Findings: Do the syntheses of ideas or data analyses and findings appear to be appropriate and complete? Do the conclusions follow from the data?
Contribution: Do the conclusions contribute valuable insights into the teaching/learning of biology?
General Interest: Does the presentation promise to be of general interest to NABT members?
Please submit your completed proposal and 200-word abstract (to be used in the conference program, if selected) to https://nabt.wufoo.com/forms/nabt-biology-education-research-symposium/
Your proposal must be uploaded as a WORD document. These WORD documents will be made into a PDF by the Chair of the research committee prior to submitting to the reviewers to ensure a blind review process.
Members of the Research Committee will send copies of your document without names and affiliation to at least two reviewers. After review, committee members will select proposals with the highest scores for acceptance in the 2020 NABT Professional Conference Research Symposium.
The proposal submission deadline is 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time on August 1, 2020.
Blind review will take place in August with final selection by mid-September 2020. All presenters are required to register for the conference. Minor corrections to submissions can be made after acceptance. Proceedings from past years are below for review.
