NABT is pleased to partner with the
Vaccine Makers Project (VMP), the classroom program of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, for “HILLEMAN and Vaccines: Essay Contest Month!”
In May 2021, NABT and VMP partnered to bring you several special opportunities:
Q&A with Paul A. Offit, M.D.
Spend a casual evening with NABT getting your vaccine-related questions answered by one of the country’s foremost vaccine experts on Friday, May 7 at 7:00pm ET.
Students are welcome to attend.
Dr. Offit will give a brief overview of the COVID-19 vaccine story, and
then respond to attendee questions. This is your opportunity to find out more about the science behind COVID-19 vaccines!
FREE Viewing of HILLEMAN - A Perilous Quest to Save the World’s Children
Watch this compelling documentary about one of the world’s most successful scientists. Free viewing for NABT members will be available between May 7 and May 21, 2021.
Love the science story? Get the film at a 30% discount (streaming, DVD, Blu-ray) with promotion code NABT2021 between May 7 and June 12, 2021 at HILLEMAN Film.
A Conversation about the role for storytelling in science with HILLEMAN Director, Donald R. Mitchell
Get a peek behind the curtain as you and your students find out more about the making of HILLEMAN on Friday, May 21 at 7:00pm ET.
Don will discuss using art to tell the story of science, answer questions about Dr. Hilleman and working with those closest to him to tell this story, and give you advance information about
his latest vaccine- and public health-related projects!
After this month of learning more about vaccines past and present, make sure your students submit their 500- to 600-word essays for the 2021 Maurice R. Hilleman Essay Contest by June 4, 2021.
Three national student winners will each receive $1,000 and recognition at a virtual event this fall. The event will be hosted by Dr. Offit and include a film premiere about creativity in
science, readings of winning essays, and a keynote address by a special surprise guest! Teachers named on winning essays will also be invited, with their current classes, to attend the
virtual event, and receive a signed book by Dr. Offit and a free one-year NABT membership.
