Champion High School, Brockton, MA
I have been teaching Biology at the high school and college level for over 15 years. I started my career in a traditional high school teaching Advanced Placement Biology. In 2004, I was awarded the Siemen’s Award for Advanced Placement teaching. After winning this award, I was determined to improve the teaching of the lower levels of biology. I transferred to an alternative school in my district that services academically at risk students who traditionally drop out. We are a portfolio performance based school and I love the challenges that I deal with every day. There is nothing more satisfying that taking a reluctant learner and showing them that they can succeed and think critically.

West High School, Iowa City, IA
This is my 19th year of teaching at Iowa City West High School and is the only school that I have had the pleasure to teach at. I spent the first 16 years teaching General Biology for primarily sophomores in our school system along with a biology course designed for struggling learners. For the past three years I have taught PLTW Biotechnical Engineering.
As a young person I developed a passion for the outdoors that led me to explore fields in biology. While II was earning my bachelors degree, I had the opportunity to coach football for a local high school where I discovered how much I enjoyed working with and teaching teenagers. Coaching influenced me to change my major to biology education. Since I started in the education profession in 1994 there has never been a day that I didn’t want to come to work because I didn’t like my job. I received my BA in Science Education from the University of Northern Iowa as well as my MAT in Science Education.
Outside of school I enjoy my hobbies of coaching football and the shot put and discus, hunting, hiking, and spending time with my wife and two high school age sons.
